Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

As new parents, we tend to worry about the safety of everything for our now seven-month old son. Is it safe for him to eat puffed cereal? Is it safe to use this brand of baby shampoo? Is it safe for him to try peanut butter yet? Is it safe to leave him on the bed alone for two seconds while I get the diaper cream or will he crawl off the bed head-first? But, since we were both almost finished with chiropractic school when he was born, we were never worried about the safety of chiropractic adjustments for myself while I was pregnant or for our son when he made his earth-side debut. Our son was adjusted at four hours old and has been checked and adjusted when necessary every week since. So, if chiropractic care is safe enough for an infant who is only hours old, then it is easily said that chiropractic is safe for everyone, especially with the technique used in our office.

At Come to Life Chiropractic, we utilize the Tonal Integrative Correction (T.I.C.) system to check and adjust our practice members. What is this system and why is it so special you might ask? Well, let me tell you; T.I.C. checks and adjusts the spine from a seated position unlike any other chiropractic system. The spinal checks are completed while seated because it allows us to see how the body is functioning in its normal upright position instead of in a non-weightbearing position such as laying down. This is crucial to finding and correcting the body’s individual issues while in its daily operating position (unless you are lucky enough to be a patient in sleep studies for a living). The body actually shows us where the issues are and how they need to be corrected during the T.I.C. analysis. Now comes the fun part and what I’m sure you’re most interested in: what makes the adjustments different and, more importantly, safe for you and your children? The adjustments are made with a light, sustained contact on the correct spinal segment at the appropriate time. The pressure of the adjustment is similar to feeling the weight of a dime in your hand. There is no twisting, popping or cracking. No anxious anticipation of the thrust, just a gentle, nurturing pressure on a specific segment of the spine. Impressive that something so light could make such a life-changing difference, huh? But that’s the secret to the T.I.C. system. The system respects the fact that the body is a genius. It knows exactly what it needs to do to breathe, digest food, pump your heart, heal a cut. The body wants to not only survive, but to thrive which is why a light adjustment works so well. The body feels the light force and breathes a sigh of relief while moving the spine back into alignment. After what seems like such a simple fix, the body is able to stop working so hard to do simple functions and can focus on the fun things that allow you to truly experience life and embrace all it has to offer.

The T.I.C. system is what was used to check and adjust our son at four hours old. As his parents, we were never worried about his safety or adverse effects because of the gentle nature of the adjustments. His body was not being forced into any position it didn’t want to be in but, instead, accepted each adjustment as it was needed with that sign of relief. He has been able to grow and develop with an uninhibited nervous system under T.I.C. care and, as his parents, we couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to allow him to fully express health and life under SAFE chiropractic care.
